If you grew up hearing ‘save the last piece for your beautiful girlfriend’ or ‘don’t sing while eating’, you already know how strange Thai folk wisdom can be. In Mystical, Nattiwut Choomanowat revisits familiar sayings and beliefs, including the idea that sticking lemongrass in the ground can stop the rain. His playful contemporary paintings turn these everyday stories into humorous characters while asking why we still follow advice whose origins we rarely question. Rather than deciding whether the beliefs are true, the show explores how they enter daily life and pass between generations.
September 5-27. Free entry. NUMBER 1 GALLERY. 10am-7pm
