Lang Suan might be known as an upmarket, tranquil residential area, but this charming neighbourhood is also a decent spot with series of new restaurants and bars being added constantly. The most recent newbie is POXY BAR, a cocktail bar located in SG Tower in Soi Mahatlek Luang 3 off Rajdamri Road. The bar can be accessed from both Lang Suan and Rajdamri Road (from the Rajdamri BTS Station) thanks to the small alley on the other side that leads back to Lang Suan within a few minutes’ walk.
For Brits, “poxy” is a slang to call something of little value or worthless, or even garbage in some context. But here, the word is used to allude to something that has been overlooked or taken for granted, as they creatively make use of misrepresented, unusual ingredients under farm to glass concept.
These ingredients are probably the least to expect in cocktails, including sugarcane pulp, Thai and Chinese herbs, Asian plants and numerous kinds of fruits that are used whole. They are infused with vodka, whose potency can extract flavors and aromas without overpowering the natural essence of the ingredients.
Most items are sourced from the north to the farthest south of Thailand, the bar owner ventures to the farmers to search for ingredients. The bar uses mainly seasonal ingredients, the cocktail menu therefore has to change accordingly, giving drinkers unique seasonal experiences throughout the year.
The space used to be a café called Shapers that was closed during the lockdown. Adding bold mood lights to the existing chic and stylish café vibe, POXY BAR comes alive at night as a vibrant cocktail bar.
Currently there are 14 signature cocktails, simply named No. 1 to No. 14, with more to come (as many as 30, we were told).
