Basil (0 2649 8366), Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit’s upscale Thai restaurant, has undergone a major facelift and it’s definitely worth a revisit.

Festooned with hints of modern Thai glam, the same old dining room has now become even more spacious thanks to the removal of the wine cellar and the relocation of the restaurant’s bar. The area is now taken over by a buffet station that puts a highlight on Thailand’s best curry dishes, served weekdays during lunch time (B580).

Chef Kesinee Wanta’s classic creations that gather up the best of regional cuisine remains. Expect flavorful bites from the central cuisine through the likes of stir-fried scallops with black pepper sauce (B670), while the spicy kick of the Northeast and the South dominate the regions’ favorites like mok pla trout (Isan-styled herbal baked trout, B780) and grilled slices of ribeye in Southern-style turmeric curry (B520).

Dessert list is filled like sweet classics like mango sticky rice (B300) and pumpkin custard served with coconut ice-cream (B300), as well as Western-inspired goodies like coconut crème brûlée.

Mok Pla trout
Gaeng Kare Gai (simmered mixed vegetable, chicken in chili paste served northern style)
Grilled marinated salmon with lemon grass
Coconut creme brulee
