What is it?
Easily one of Chiang Mai’s most ‘picture-perfect’ hotels, each floor is personally designed by a curated handful of Thailand’s most celebrated artists. Rooms are quirky and the newly opened Surr Bar is an artistic take on hidden cocktail bar fun where drinks are as bold as the decor. What’s more, stay two nights or more between now and October 31 and get free upgrades and late checkout on the house!
Why we love it?
Did we mention each floor is designed by a different Thai artist? Each artist has picked out their favourite style and modeled rooms per their whim – think subtle oil-painted nudes by Sakwut Wisesmanee to colourful pop art by Chalit Nakpawan and impressionist treasures by legendary Charoon Boonsuan. But for us, the real masterpiece has to be the Artist’s signature rooms – a single room on each floor that’s more a living art piece than a hotel room. Grand golden tunnels, pure white minimalist sanctuaries and suitcases overflowing with the artist’s own books turn each stay into a sleep-in installation. And, up top at the Surr Bar, monthly sip and paint events keep the shots flowing while guests work hard on their own, alcohol-fueled creative canvases.
Time Out tip:
Each of the six artists behind the hotel’s design gets free rein – and free stays – in their own signature rooms. If one’s booked out, don’t be surprised if the artist is in town; you might just bump into them in the lift.
