Breathing deeply in central Bangkok isn't always the easiest thing to do these days. But the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration is gradually giving public space back to the city, from launching a booking website for creative spaces to doing up parks so they actually work for people who use them.

The latest addition is a big one. The 80th Birthday Anniversary Park of His Majesty the King in Sathorn District opens again after a massive renovation, sprawling over 27,000 square metres. The revamped green space is ready for exercise fans, people after some peace and quiet and anyone looking for somewhere to spend their time that isn't another shopping mall.

The park opens to the public now and even though there's no official ribbon-cutting ceremony yet, everything inside already works. You get a waterside walkway, nature study trail, healing garden, children's playground, jogging track and exercise path, plus an outdoor stage. There really is something for everyone and you can use it from morning right through to evening.

If you fancy a jog or just want to escape into some actual greenery, grab your trainers and head to Soi Ngam Duphli. The more green spaces the city gets, the more breathing room we all have. Just imagine breaking away from the towering buildings and traffic chaos to find yourself in a park that's actually pleasant to look at and be in, right in the heart of Sathon.

Whether it's a weekend wander or an after-work escape, this slice of green makes for a welcome refuge from Bangkok's relentless pace. And honestly, the city needs more of this.

80th Birthday Anniversary Park of His Majesty the King, Soi Ngam Duphli, Sathorn (MRT Lumphini Station, Exit 1). Open daily 5am-9pm.
