Within a year of its opening, Blue by Alain Ducasse has earned itself 1 Michelin star. The announcement was made this month at the official launch of the fourth edition of the Michelin Guide Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket & Phang-Nga 2021.

The restaurant located on the banks of the Chao Phraya River in ICONLUXE, ICONSIAM is the first restaurant in Thailand by Alain Ducasse, one of the world’s greatest and most decorated chefs and an iconic mentor-chef to many other chefs in Michelin-starred restaurants around the world.

“I would not be here in Thailand without the ongoing trust and support of Mrs. Chadatip Chutrakul. Thank you for your vision. All my thoughts go to the team in place since the opening: Wilfrid, Alex and Maxou. These guys have done a formidable job! Thank you and your teams for your commitment despite the rocky times we are going through. Beyond the awards and media recognition I would like to thank our loyal guests to tell us about the pleasure of dining in our restaurant. We are proud to give you everlasting memories,” said Chef Ducasse.

The contemporary French menu, exclusive to Blue, uses carefully selected ingredients combined with the French know-how and techniques, and complements the magnificent location of the restaurant, taking guests on an unparalleled culinary journey.

“To be awarded a Michelin star is an amazing endorsement of the hard work put in by both our culinary team and front-of-house service staff.  It is also a fantastic validation of our commitment to delivering an exquisite culinary experience to our guests. Firstly, I would like to express my gratitude to Chef Alain Ducasse for his faith in me and his valued mentoring. I would also like to thank the entire team of Blue and the management of ICONSIAM for their support,” said Blue’s Executive Chef Wilfrid Hocquet, who brings a wealth of experience from his time at one of the world’s greatest restaurants – the 3 Michelin star ‘Le Louis XV - Alain Ducasse in Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo.

“Receiving a Michelin star is a great honour for us. This prestigious recognition will inspire us to continue to ensure that ICONSIAM is a place where the best of Thailand meets the best of the world, and work to further elevate Bangkok’s position as one of the world’s important destinations for gastronomic experiences,” said Mrs. Chadatip Chutrakul, Director, ICONSIAM, and Chief Executive Officer of Siam Piwat Co., Ltd., who was instrumental in bringing Alain Ducasse to Thailand.

The Michelin star is the second major accolade for Blue this month. Last week its striking interiors took the top spot in the Fine Dining category on Interior Design’s Best of Year Awards list. An industry-leading design publication serving the architectural and design community, Interior Design celebrates the most significant projects and products of the year from around the globe with its annual Best of Year Awards that is the ultimate measure of design excellence.

Blue’s interior decoration is a sensory delight and is a part of Chef Alain Ducasse’s belief in a total experience being created for patrons. Designed by Jouin Manku – a Parisian spatial design studio led by French designer Patrick Jouin and Canadian architect Sanjit Manku who have designed all of Alain Ducasse’s 3 Michelin star restaurants – Blue is a sumptuous but still informal setting where blues, golds, creams, and natural wood dominate the palette, putting patrons at ease and enveloping them in comfort.

Patrons arrive through a welcoming wood-paneled foyer, and see ahead a lounge surrounded by walnut and brass lamps that spark your curiosity to discover what is beyond. The lounge is a space of seclusion and privacy that has been inspired by the intimate gardens – the ‘bosquets’ – of the Chateau de Versailles.

Drawn further, patrons begin to glimpse the main dining area of the restaurant beyond with an exceptionally conceived chandelier of pleated textures in cream, supported by flowing wooden supports and with the sparkle of lights filtering through. The walls are a luxurious royal blue and frame a glorious expanse of floor-to-ceiling views along the river and across the city. This main dining area is completed by two private dining rooms. It is open Thursday through Monday all-day from noon with last orders taken at 9 pm, closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
