Free live music takes over Bangkok's parks every weekend ‘til February

Music in the Park hits Benjakitti, Wachirabenchathat, Rama 8, Thonburi Rom and Lumphin. Here's what's on

The hot and humid weather has a slight coolness creeping in. For those who leave home early in the morning, you may have already felt an unusually cool breeze.

Good news for those who love cool weather. Bangkok Metropolitan Administration has sorted out the January lineup for its Music in the Park series, it's a pretty sweet way to spend your weekends.

The first performances kick off this weekend (January 9-11) across five parks including Benjakitti, Wachirabenchathat, Rama 8, Thonburi Rom and Lumphini. Just grab a mat, maybe some snacks, and settle in for some outdoor entertainment.

The BMA has brought in everyone from the Royal Bangkok Symphony Orchestra and Kalyanivadhana Music Institute to Jellyroll Jazz Club and local indie acts like The 1st April and NotFake. There are even some community youth bands thrown in, which adds a nice neighbourhood feel to the whole thing.

Here's what's on this month:

  • January 9 sees the BMA Band opening things up at Benchakitti Park's Playground.
  • January 10 brings the BMA Band back to the same venue. Over at Wachirabenchathat Park, Jellyroll Jazz Club performs from 4.30pm, while Hor Wang School Band takes the stage at Suan Luang Rama VIII Park.
  • January 11 features the BMA Band again at Benchakitti, plus Bangkok Woodwind Quintet at Thonburirom Park and Royal Bangkok Symphony Orchestra at Lumphini Park from 5.30pm.
  • January 17 brings The 1st April and NotFake to Benchakitti Park. Time Soul Percussion Group performs at Suan Luang Rama VIII, or you can catch a long drum band from Wat Mahannaparam School alongside a khon performance at Lumphini.
  • January 18 has Royal Bangkok Symphony Orchestra at Lumphini Park from 5.30pm.
  • January 24 offers Bangkok Big Band at Benchakitti or the National Symphony Orchestra of Thailand at Suan Luang Rama VIII.
  • January 25 features Bangkok Metropolitan Orchestra at Benchakitti and Royal Bangkok Symphony Orchestra at Lumphini from 5.30pm.
  • January 31 wraps up the month with NewNua at Benchakitti, Bangkok Metropolitan Orchestra at Suan Luang Rama VIII or The Bangkok Band at Santi Chai Prakan Park.

All performances start from 5pm unless stated otherwise.
