Phya Thai Palace, the lesser-known former royal residence near Victory Monument, opens its doors in the evening for the first time in many years as it celebrates its 101st anniversary with a series of stunning light shows.

For one month, vibrant lights will light up the facade and interiors of the palace’s various buildings, accentuating its enduring neoclassical motifs. The palace grounds will showcase lighting installations by five of Thailand’s leading lighting artists: Ama Studio, Designkit, Na Satta, FOS Lighting Design, and LightSource.

Built in 1909, Phya Thai Palace served as the royal residence for King Vajiravudh, or Rama VI, and his mother for many years. Its massive backyard was once home to Dusit Thani, a miniature fictional town where the monarch experimented with concepts of democracy in Thailand. Phra Mongkutklao Hospital now occupies major parts of the palace grounds. The first floor of the main mansion houses Cafe Norasingha, where you can enjoy a cuppa amidst the grand interiors.

The lighting showcase will go on from 18:00 to 21:00 every night until March 16. Tickets are priced at B200 for Thai adults and B400 for foreigners and are available on Zip Events.
