Our little Moo Deng (‘bouncy pork’) that stole the internet’s heart, with her chubby cheeks and chaotic energy is all grown up and officially Aunty Moo Deng now. Khao Kheow Open Zoo in Chonburi has welcomed a new baby pygmy hippopotamus, born on November 4 2026, to Moo Deng’s older brother Moo Toon (‘stewed pork’) and his partner Moo Manao (‘lime pork’).

According to the zoo director’s report, vets found both mother and calf healthy, with the newborn already exploring while Moo Manao stayed close. She’s keeping staff at a distance for now. As of November 6, the calf’s sex had not been determined and no name had been announced, so we’re still waiting to find out whether Moo Deng has a new niece or nephew.

Will the newcomer inherit Moo Deng’s Michelin-Man rolls, slippery sass and famously feisty personality? We’re just as curious. Born under the sign of Scorpio, there’s already plenty of potential for a little drama.

Moo Deng’s own name was chosen by public vote, but a naming poll for this calf has yet to be confirmed. Keep an eye on the zoo’s Facebook page for news of what the latest addition to the ‘Moo’ family will be called.

The zoo says it plans to introduce the calf to the public soon, but hasn’t announced a viewing date. It’s roughly a two-hour drive from Bangkok, depending on your starting point and traffic. Before plotting that hippo road trip, check the zoo’s latest updates to see when visitors can meet the newborn.
