If you think Songkran is over, think again. April in Thailand revolves around this water-filled celebration, typically held from April 13–15. But for those who missed out or want more, there’s still time to jump into the action at Wan Lai Songkran Phra Pradaeng, taking place from today until April 27.
Known as the Water Flowing Days of Songkran, this second-chance festival takes place in Phra Pradaeng District, Samut Prakan. It’s rooted in the local customs of the ethnic Mon community, a group originally from Myanmar who have preserved their unique language, culture and traditions over centuries.
Of course, you can expect the entire area to transform into a water splash zone, with everyone ready to get soaked. But there’s more to the celebration than just water fights. You’ll find cultural activities with locals in traditional Mon clothing performing classical dances. Don't miss the sacred water-pouring ritual over Buddha statues at Wat Protket Chettharam, a significant spiritual tradition.
One of the main highlights is the colourful parade of floral floats, featuring the Songkran Queen in her stunning traditional attire. As night falls, Phlaeng Faifa Fortress Historical Park lights up with magical light displays, creating a captivating experience for visitors of all ages.
Although the location is not in Bangkok, it’s easy to reach by ferry from several piers, including Wat Bang Na Nok Pier on Sanphawut Road, Klong Toey Pier and Petra Pier.
