Shopping malls nationwide are expected to reopen this Sunday (17 May) as the government announced the second phase to ease the nation-wide coronavirus lockdown.

Taweesilp Visanuyothin, the spokesperson for the Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration, announced at the daily coronavirus briefing today (15 May) that shopping malls and community malls in Thailand can resume business from 10:00-20:00. Food court, beauty clinics and beauty salon can also reopen. Restaurants in shopping malls can resume dine-in service without the consumption of alcohol beverages.

Majors shopping malls under Siam Piwat (Siam Paragon, ICONSIAM and Siam Center) and Central Group have also introduced the “New Normal” regulations to ensure hygienic shopping spree.

Other venues that are expected to reopen this Sunday include outdoor sports stadiums, botanical gardens, libraries and museums. Swimming pools can be used for one hour per person, while fitness centers can only open the free weight area. (The use of group exercise studios, treadmills, and spinning bikes are prohibited). Massage parlor can open for foot massage only.

Movie theaters remain closed.

The nighttime curfew will also be shortened to between 11 pm and 4 am. So you have more time to rush back home.
