T-Pop, our country’s very own pop music genre, is hot right now—and not just among local teens. On Spotify alone, the platform has seen an impressive increase in the genre’s popularity in the past five years, particularly in Thailand, USA, Malaysia, Singapore, and Japan. It also has a following in Sweden, Germany, France, and Mexico. Seemingly, T-Pop’s popularity coincides with the global interest in Thai BL productions.
So who are Spotify’s most popular T-Pop artists? Top names include Ink Warunthorn, Billkin, The TOYS, and Tilly Birds.
In anticipation of more demand and looking at future trends, the music platform has just released a global “T-Pop Now” playlist, featuring the most played T-Pop songs, as well as new releases from both top and up-and-coming artists. This playlist will be actively promoted not only in Thailand, but also in the aforementioned markets and beyond. It is available to stream by both regular and premium members.
That’s not all. Spotify has also teamed up with GMMTV, Thailand’s biggest producer of BL content, to launch the “Why I Love You” playlist (a pun on “Y”, which is the colloquial term for the Thai BL genre in Thai). This playlist will highlight T-Pop songs featured in popular BL productions and will be available globally to all members as well.
