Expect to fork out a little more at the grocery store if you can’t live without soft drinks and bottled tea drinks. Starting October 1, a sugar tax will be added to drinks with more than 10 grams of sugar per 100ml. According to the Excise Department, the new tax is expected to lessen sugar consumption among sweets-loving Thais. Well, if the government really cares about our heath and wants to seriously control our sugar consumption, overly sweet bubble tea should be included into the list, too.
