Thailand’s women’s volleyball team makes history with first Olympic berth

After decades of waiting, Thai volleyball fans finally have the news they’ve longed for: the national women’s team is going to the Olympics for the first time.

The historic ticket was secured in a nail-biting final against hosts and 13-time Asian champions China at the 2026 AVC Women’s Volleyball Asian Championship in Tianjin. Thailand prevailed 3-2 in a five-set thriller to win a fourth Asian title and successfully defend the crown they claimed in 2023.

This was far more than another trophy. Thailand have competed on virtually every major stage, but the Olympic Games had always remained tantalisingly out of reach – until now. Credit, too, to Coach Aot, Kiattipong Ratchatakriangkrai, who returned for a second spell as head coach and steered the team to this landmark triumph.

The Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games run from July 14 to July 30, 2028. The women’s volleyball schedule and Thai broadcast details have yet to be announced.
