This holiday season, The Standard, Bangkok Mahanakhon is elevating the capital’s festive affairs with old-fashioned 1980s glamour. Right from the entry, you’ll be greeted with the “designer Christmas tree” put together by Dhanut Tungsuwan, one of the Bangkok’s hottest creatives minds to create a truly Instagrammable moment.
The Plaza brings its all-American retro glam inspired by the legendary Hollywood’s Sunset Strip to town with its own roller disco between 17-27 December. Expect groovy disco tunes by daily DJs and a rare chance to roller skate and bring back some good old times. Entry is free with chargeable hourly skate rental.
From 19 December until the end of the month, The Parlor is serving a special collection of festive cocktails from B500 a pop. Come New Year’s Eve, The Standard’s mixologists will be pouring their creativity into Standard Light – an exclusive creation served strictly at midnight.
Over at Tease, you can soak up the holiday spirit with a Christmas-inspired Afternoon Tea until the end of January 2023. For B1,400++ a set per person, the playful nibbles include Iberico tarts with peach and hazelnuts, Canadian lobster rolls with caviar and their signature quail and whisky party pies, as well as sweet treats such as cranberry scones with blackberry jam, Manjari chocolate and spiced brandy and others. An extra B275++ gets you a glass of bubbly.
If you’re looking for a value yet hearty and oh-so-festive feasts, The Standard Grill is offering four-course set dinner on Christmas Eve and lunch on Christmas Day, served according to American tradition in family style. Think roasted meat carved table-side, premium charcuterie, Christmas pudding, moreish pumpkin pie with crème fraîche ice cream and more, as well as extra-long New Year’s Day Brunch that is served from dawn till late afternoon.
Add flair and fun to your festive feast and do it Mexican style at Ojo. Award-winning chef Francisco Paco Ruano is bringing authentic tastes of Central America to the table with dishes like tuna carpaccio on toasted tortilla topped with avocado and ant salsa, slow-cooked lamb shoulder with salsa verde and mezcal, Veracruz-style bacalao made with roasted cod, crispy skin suckling pig with ponche sauce, homemade churros with pine nuts and Rompope ice cream and others, along with the sweeping view from the 76th floor.
An ideal and intimate option for a large group and families would be Mott 32 Bangkok that serves authentic dishes drawn heavily from Cantonese and Szechuan influences. Pick a table outside on the terrace and enjoy the Bangkok skyline, or a private room to enjoy a set menu that include delectable dishes such as hot and sour Shanghainese soup dumplings, fire-roasted suckling pig, caviar and fish maw jelly, and double-boiled abalone soup as well as signature apple wood-roasted 42-day Peking duck.
If rooftop venue is your thing, there’s probably not any other spot that would elevate your festive mood like Sky Beach, currently Bangkok’s highest rooftop bar. Along with 360-degree view of the city (and a vantage point for firework shows), the countdown party also includes live DJ sets from homegrown spinners and renowned international DJs; Aroop Roy and Lost Frequencies, who is ranked the world’s no.28 DJ on DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs for 2022.
