This creative pop-up dinner lets you design your own plates and share them live on digital platform

Cutting-edge design firms, Swedish-born Another New Design Studio and Bangkok-based Thinkk Studio, team up with Charoenkrung ingredient-focused eatery 80/20 to launch 31T (pronounced “bit”), a cutting-edge gastronomic event where eating is merged with digital technology to explore more possibilities of flavor spectrums and how internet relate people and generate new ideas.

As one of several thought-provoking activities in the inaugural Bangkok Design Week 2018, 31T offers one-of-a-kind eating experience in which diners play an active role. You will be selecting three items from more than sixty varieties of locally-sourced ingredients provided by 80/20. (So basically, it’s like a canape buffet in which each round you can grab only three bites.) From common items like toasted peanut to more adventurous offerings like spicy frog terrines and pak kee hook, you are given liberty to create your own flavor combination and explore how the three components work with one another. Love it or hate it; you can share and rate your results via an application, which will also be published live via the projector for other guests to see.

According to 80/20 head chef Napol Jantraget, the active role of the diners in picking the ingredients can bring about interesting outcome as they are the one who is not framed by rules and disciplines as professional chefs. Overall, it’s a fun event with several surprising moments when you discover amazing flavors from the trio that seem to be antagonistic like pickled fish, crickets and chocolate. And you can also see other tried-and-tested results from fellow guests and recreate their creations.
