Wong supplies the programme’s centre of gravity rather than the entire bill. He directed Chungking Express, In the Mood for Love and Fallen Angels, while Peter Chan’s Maggie Cheung-led Hong Kong romance Comrades: Almost a Love Story and Hollywood favourites Pulp Fiction and Pretty Woman broaden the mood-led line-up. Pulp Fiction is not entirely out of left field: Tarantino famously championed Chungking Express and helped introduce it to American audiences.
With warm vintage lighting, a romantic glow and Chinatown after dark all around, the setting feels made for the silver screen. Bring a date, round up your mates or head over solo, cold drink in hand – this is one of Bangkok’s most atmospheric cinema experiences.
