A hidden gem in Sukhumvit where Root’s former barista conjures up caffeinated concoctions

Mocktails, comparing to its boozy counterpart, has long been deemed an underdog in the city’s drinking scene. One person intends to change all that. Having departed Thonglor roasting institution Roots, barista Worawut Joowattanapong teams up with hip haunt Baker Gonna Bake to launch his own caffeinated haven.

A sense of hominess permeates Fourth Floor, where basic wooden furniture and potted plants play a big part in the café’s interiors. Worawut conjures up his drinks at the bar, where stories behind his creations are recounted with great enthusiasm.

Apart from filtered coffee (B150), Worawut churns out creative concoctions that make use of home-brewed tea and coffee, and incorporates local ingredients to create complex, flavored drinks. The refreshing, coffee-based Chor Ginnaree (B180) features a dash of ginger and roselle syrup, and is finished off with ginger ale, while Toob Tab (B180) replicates Thai-style coffee with a hint of peanut and chocolate. Home-brewed white tea is mixed with jasmine-infused water and makes its way into the very fruity Mongkud Sumala (B180) filled with pomegranate, pink orange and aloe vera. The decaffeinated drink Saneh Wantong highlights spicy and sour flavors with tamarind juice and a secret syrup made from chili and salt.
