This Ratchathewi café injects international influences into everyday comfort fare

The nondescripted, blond-wood paneling that permeates The Fork Eatery may ring the alarm for generic comfort food, which is the staple in most Phya Thai eateries. But the long list of casual eats in this eatery’s menu features creative tweaks, not to mention mouthwatering baked goods that could easily rival the offerings in some of the best pastry shops in the city.

At quick glance, The Fork Eatery’s menu doesn’t seem much different from that of other cookie-cutter comfort food joints in the city. Fusion pasta: check. Rice dishes with egg yolk variations: check. Sparkling refreshers in fruity flavors: check. A more intimate experience with the dishes themselves, however, reveals more meticulous treatments and globespanning flavors that elevate your everyday comfort fare.

For example, spaghetti is served with a thick and flavorful pork ragu (B180) that has been simmered for three hours, or an indulgent sauce that combines river prawns, prawn roe and prawn fat (B170). The stir-fried beef basil with rice (B185) is ranked above your typical street offering with the use wagyu beef and a custard-like onsen tamago. All-day breakfast options include Croque Monsieur, which combines three cheeses—parmesan, mozzarella and cheddar (B175), and shakshuka, which comes with a slightly sweet tomato sauce and fried egg (B145).

But it’s the desserts that really shine at The Fork Eatery. A rotating selection includes rich, chewy brownies (B135) and a moist carrot cake (B110).
