Siam Country Club Bangkok

What is it?: Siam Country Club group, famed for its four great courses near Pattaya, opened this near-Bangkok course in 2022. Designed by Toby Cobb it offers wide fairways, large undulating greens and a breeze, most days, from the nearby gulf of Thailand. These people know how to manage a golf course so expect, as a guest, to be well treated from start to finish. It’s typically just a 30-minute drive from the centre of Bangkok, provided you avoid weekday rush hours.

Why we love it?: The course is in great shape and no matter what time of day you play, this is one of the best policed courses for keeping rounds to four hours or less. As a golf challenge, the course is evolving as the strategically placed trees and shrub areas bed in and grow. Play it now and then play it again in three years and it may feel like quite a different challenge.

Signature hole: Undoubtedly the 14th which is a dog leg right par four with a lake carry to the green for anyone bold enough to have a go at reaching it in one. Bunkers have been added to the end of the driving fairway that add an extra element of doubt in the best way to play the hole. The green protected by bunkers slopes towards the lake giving a fair chance that a good shot will hold the green. 

Time Out tip: For golfers on tour go with an early afternoon tee-off on weekdays you may never have to wait on a shot. The only drawback is that the practice facilities do not include a driving range.
