Imagine, Taipei, 1986, a steaming hotpot table and a handful of restless musicians who decided percussion deserved its own stage. What began as a conversation over broth grew into Ju, Taiwan’s first professional percussion ensemble and, eventually, an entire genre. Since then, they’ve travelled to more than 35 countries and trained nearly 155,000 students across 24 schools. A Ju performance isn’t something you simply listen to – it gets under your skin. Marimbas, xylophones, timpani, gongs and hand drums collide with experimental sounds to create a kaleidoscope of rhythm. Influences stretch wide, from Balinese patterns to indigenous Taiwanese myths. It’s a journey that pushes beyond categories, asking you to surrender logic and tune into pulse.
