Maya Ongaku play like they’re tuning in to the earth itself – a Japanese trio from the seaside town of Enoshima whose sound hums with salt air and soft distortion. Their blend of jazz, rock and ambient tones feels spontaneous, like something born in the moment rather than rehearsed. Tsutomu Sonoda, Ryota Takano and Shoei Ikeda trade between guitar, bass, keys and saxophone, creating a kind of dreamy psychedelia that drifts just beyond your line of sight – fitting for a band whose name roughly means ‘imagined sound outside one’s vision’. When they arrive in Bangkok for their Asia tour, they’ll be joined by Soft Pine, whose mellow textures and lo-fi warmth set the mood perfectly for an evening that feels both grounded and otherworldly.
