Memorial Day Weekend completely crept up on everyone this year and while the weather looks great for the holiday here in Boston, you’re ready to get out of town. But where to go, and what to do?

Believe it or not, even at the last minute, there are getaways on Cape Cod and the islands, as well as options beyond the Commonwealth, that you can book for the weekend. Or, if things are tight, take a few days off and head to your destination on Memorial Day. The only limit is your imagination and ability to take time off to travel.

Of course, if you can’t get away this weekend, consider this your Fourth of July and Labor Day inspo, because those weekends will be here before you know it. But if you need to stay a little more local, read our guide to the best day trips from Boston!

Head to the Cape

Glamping is a trend right now, probably because it’s so fun, and doesn’t usually require trying to assemble your own tent. Want to try a camping adventure on the Cape? Enter AutoCamp, which offers overnight lodging and accommodations in modern Airstream suites and luxurious tents. You’ll find high-end, boutique-style amenities, mid-century modern design, and welcoming hospitality. The Cape Cod location is close to the shore, only a short bike ride to Falmouth and Woods Hole. Book for a chilled out weekend of buttery lobster rolls and sunny beaches.

Spend the weekend on Nantucket

There’s not much better than stepping off a flight or ferry to Nantucket island, and what a way to kick off the summer in style.

Faraway Nantucket

For a luxe trip dripping with charm and style, Faraway’s Nantucket outpost is an ideal choice for a getaway that’s not just a hotel or resort, it’s packed with experiences. The shingle style hotel is equal parts bohemian and nautical, Faraway’s location puts you in the middle of the action in Nantucket, while functioning as a peaceful oasis for your weekend.

The Beachside

You can visit Nantucket on a more modest budget (somewhat), but the Beachside’s airy balconies and poolside courtyard won’t make you feel like any corners have been cut. The Brant Point hotel is an easy bike ride into town, the rooms have a bright, coastal vibe and there’s a complimentary coffee and pastry service every morning to fuel your day.

The Hamptons are calling

Sunset Montauk

Ready to go a little further than the Cape? Head down to the famously fabulous Hamptons for a getaway to the white sandy shores of Montauk. One of the furthest spots out on Long Island, Montauk is packed with activities from sunrise to sunset. Check in at Sunset Montauk and you’ll find bright, newly renovated rooms and beach views. An easy walk to the beach and plenty of restaurants, you won’t find a more relaxing getaway.

Hop a quick flight to San Juan

Looking for some palm trees at the beach this weekend? Hop a quick flight to Puerto Rico, take a 15 minute cab ride and settle in at El San Juan for a trip that can be as relaxing or fun filled as you want. Spend your days on a poolside lounge and taking leisurely beach walks, at night you can check out live music (and salsa dancing) at the lobby bar, or take a quick cab ride into Old San Juan for a traditional Puerto Rican meal. Finish your night at the tables at the Foxwoods El San Juan casino, right on the property.
