Boston Restaurants open on New Year’s Eve

Toast the New Year—with truffles—at Bar Enza. The Cambridge newcomer, which is located within the Charles Hotel in Harvard Square, will be featuring a truly indulgent, five-course dinner focused on these prized mushrooms. Created by executive chef, Mark Ladner, the NYE menu will include dishes like: mozzarella sticks with truffled dipping sauce; robiolina ravioli with black truffles; a beef trio with roasted truffle jus; and a white truffle trifle for dessert. The prix fixe affair will be $180 per person, with optional wine pairings available for an extra $165. Reserve online or by calling the restaurant. 

Say “ciao” to 2021 with a five-course dinner at SRV. The Italian eatery will start guests off with a selection of its renowned cicchetti (like truffle-stuffed mushrooms) and an antipasto (i.e. beef carpaccio with celery root, beet and cabbage). Diners will then get to dive into their choice of a deliciously starchy primo—either risotto with lobster, clam, shrimp, snails and mussel, or balanzoni pasta with pistachio, speck and goat cheese—before moving on to the meaty, main event: lamb saddle with sunchokes, guajillo chilis and chocolate. If you somehow have room after all that food, sink your fork into a Neapolitan for dessert, and you’ll be rolling out of the place when the clock strikes midnight. The prix fixe experience is $100 per person, and there’ll also be an a la carte menu available at the bar.

Celebrate those last, dwindling moments of the year with dinner at Troquet on South. The Leather District bistro will be serving a three-course meal filled with sophisticated, French-inspired fare. The prix fixe menu will include choices like: butternut squash bisque with Maine lobster, ginger and Honeycrisp apple; Hudson Valley duck breast with green lentils, Brussels sprouts, crispy confit and a sauce poivrade; and Prime ribeye with roasted garlic butter, mixed greens salad, vincotto and fries. Seatings will be held between 5pm—10pm, with tickets costing $99. Secure your spot online.

Raise a fork to the New Year at MIDA this Dec. 31. The South End spot and its Newton outpost will be offering a three-course, prix fixe menu for $65 per person. In addition to the Italian feast, guests can take the evening to the next level and indulge in optional supplements, such as caviar, risotto with truffles and wine pairings to accompany every course. There will be three seatings for the night, so be sure to secure your spot and make a reservation.

Get one last taste of 2021 at Urban Hearth. The cozy Cambridge spot will be hosting a five-course dinner to close out the year, starting with a little bubbly to toast the last 12 months. The tasting menu spread will include casually sumptuous dishes like corn husk-roasted duck breast with lentils and black truffle, as well as dayboat scallop crudo with yuzu, black sesame macaron and caviar. The meal is $150 per person, with the option to add wine pairings for another $80. Seats are limited in this cute little eatery, so be sure to reserve a space online well in advance.

Welcome the New Year out in Newton, at neighborhood favorite Thistle & Leek. The quaint suburban gastropub will be serving up a special, four-course menu fit for any gourmand for $85 per person. The prix fixe feast starts with snacks to share, like potato rosti with clam dip, before diving right into the first course (i.e. chilled pumpkin custard with Maine uni, white soy, walnut and scallion) and the main (we’ll take the venison loin and sausage with macomber turnip gratin and sauce robert), and finishing with a dessert (think chocolate cake with coffee cream and banana anglaise). Besides the already indulgent choices included, there are also luxurious supplements you can add to make your last meal of 2021 even more memorable, such as foie gras, caviar and truffles.

Finish the year on top—specifically, on the top of The Newbury at Contessa. The rooftop eatery will be serving a four-course menu of festive fare. Among the Italian-inspired dishes that will be available: fresh mozzarella with black truffle; spicy lobster rigatoni; prime rib with au jus and a torta di baci. In addition to incredible views of the Back Bay, Contessa will be creating some ambiance with live jazz from 6—9pm, followed by a set from DJ Howie Buccieri from 9pm—1am. The prix fixe feast is $250 per person, and reservations should be made ahead of time.

Looking to go wicked big this NYE? Deuxave is offering a luxurious tasting menu for anyone looking to go all out. The prix fixe feast starts with an assortment of canapes before getting into five courses of pure indulgence. Dishes include a melange of local lobster, truffled sunchoke angolotti and filet of beef Rossini. This extravagent experience is $299 per person, and reservations can be made online and via phone.

One of Harvard Square's most popular dining destinations is serving a four-course prix fixe menu ($85 per person, $125 with wines) in its spacious dining room. Highlights coming out the kitchen this New Year's Eve include pan-fried gnocchi with braised rabbit, filet mignon with escargot and eggnog crème brûlée. Don't forget to start off your dinner with add-ons from the raw bar because, hey, it's a celebration. 

This steakhouse, located within Encore Boston Harbor, will be in rare form on New Year’s Eve, offering a luxurious, five-course prix fixe dinner with wine pairings. Amongst the decadent dishes that will grace guests’ tables: an Alaskan king crab caviar tart; country pâté de campagne with fresh Alba white truffle; crispy red snapper; Snake River Farms’ American Wagyu beef with black truffle au gratin; and a vanilla sponge cake topped with a dulce de leche mousse and caramelized pineapple coulis. It will be available after 9pm and cost $295 per person, but there will also be an a la carte menu for folks who don’t feel like going all in earlier in the evening. Reservations can be made online.
