This classic originated in Bermuda and is enough to make us feel like we might need to take a trip to an island. Chicago's takes included a frozen version of the drink on a patio and plenty with house-made ginger beer.

Moneygun's laid-back space is just the right place to sip on a classic dark and stormy made with house-made ginger beer, Blackwell rum and lime juice. Moneygun's ginger beer is sweet but not overpowering with a nice snap of ginger melding with the rum for a refreshing sipper. $10.75. —Elizabeth Atkinson

The newly opened patio behind Maria's extended space is certainly a fantastic spot to hang out with one of the many beer choices available, but it's also a great spot for a spicy take on a dark and stormy. A Dark and Stormy Night in Bridgeport combines Maria's Ginger Beer (brewed at Filbert's Soda specifically for Maria's) with spiced rum and Angostura bitters for a spice-forward cocktail. $7. —EA

Listed nearly at the top of the Barrelhouse Flat's rum page of classic cocktails, the only cocktail more refreshing than the Dark 'n Stormy on this particular list is the Airmail. It's because this guy, while sweet and light, also has the right amount of spice accompanied with a Cruzan Black Strap rum float on top of a base with El Dorado 5 Year rum, lime, sugar and ginger beer. $13. —EA

The dimly-lit, cozy front nook at Gilt Bar is a fitting place to find refuge with a strong Dark and Stormy after a long day. The menu itself is bookended with classic cocktails, and you can find the Dark and Stormy tucked into the section devoted to mules (a combination of citrus juice, ginger beer and your choice of liquor). At Gilt Bar, it is made with the classic dark rum subdued with a peppery kick of ginger beer, creating a cocktail that serves as a bright and fizzy pick-me-up. $12. —Rebecca Skoch
