Logan Square residents will soon have a new place to shop for natural and organic groceries, beer and wine, and sliced meats. The Dill Pickle Food Co-op broke ground today on a new, full-size location, signaling that the final phase of the cooperative's long-awaited expansion is underway.

Dill Pickle's massive new storefront, located at 2746 N Milwaukee Avenue, is expected to open in late August. The new location will not only offer a wider selection of products, but also sell beer, wine and fresh deli foods. Until it makes the move, Dill Pickle will continue to operate out of its original Logan Square store at 3039 W Fullerton Avenue.

On Monday, general manager Sharon Hoyer and members of the community toured the 10,000-square-foot space as part of a short groundbreaking ceremony at the new site. In a project update posted on the co-op's website, Hoyer said the final construction phase is expected to take about five months. "This means we’re about to kick into high gear, building new systems for bigger departments, developing new training plans, and planning out an entire deli," Hoyer said.

The new store will also feature a community room, dedicated parking and expanded aisles. According to DNAinfo, the expansion will cost about $3.5 million.
