It's not uncommon to walk in on a poet spouting verses during a stop for at your local coffee shop, but you usually don't encounter a gathering of Bohemian wordsmiths while you're standing in line to order a Big Mac. The Rock 'N Roll McDonald's in River North will get a dash of culture this evening when McPoems—a poetry reading featuring a supersized lineup of writers, poets and artists—takes over the restaurant's second floor.

The event will be hosted by School of the Art Institute of Chicago graduate Marcel Alcalá, who has organized similar gatherings at McDonald's restaurants in Los Angeles. Alcalá told DNAinfo that he has received prior approval from management to hold the event at the River North location. Those who enjoy poetry readings with a side of fries can stop by Rock 'N Roll McDonald's to check out Chicago's first McPoems gathering tonight at 7pm.
