After spending a few days with your family over Thanksgiving, you may be in need of an escape to the land Westeros (though we don't advise dealing with your relatives with the violent methods favored by the Targaryens and the Lannisters). If you're staying in Chicago for the holidays, you'll be able to immerse yourself in the world of the hit HBO series at the Game of Thrones: Behind the Scenes event, which comes to the Petrillo Music Shell in Grant Park from noon to 8pm on November 26 and 27.

While celebrating the release of the sixth season of Game of Thrones on DVD and Blu-ray (just in time for the holidays), fans will be able to participate in a variety of interactive experiences that replicate key scenes from the series. Attendees will be able to insert themselves into Daenerys' fiery temple burning, the Battle of the Bastards and the infamous "hold the door" scene (just mentioning it makes us tear up a little) while creating photos and videos that can be shared with friends.

The behind the scenes event also includes a virtual reality experience that allows participants to join the Night's Watch and defend Castle Black with a virtual crossbow. Elsewhere, guests will be able to peruse a collection of props and costumes from the series, including a replica of the Iron Throne that you can sit atop for the ultimate photo opportunity.

The entire event is free and open to the public, though anyone under 18 will need to be accompanied by an adult. You can register to attend on the event's website, but admission will be first come, first served. If you end up standing in line outside in the cold, just pretend that you're preparing for battle against the White Walkers at the foot of the Wall.
