The seven best things to do this weekend in Chicago

1. Explore public art

As part of the city's Year of Public Art, the Cultural Center takes a look at the Wall of Respect, a famous South Side mural painted in 1967. Learn the story of the mural’s creation and its lasting legacy in Chicago culture. (Cultural Center, 78 E Washington St, Fri–Sun 10am–5pm. Free)

2. Catch great local hip-hop

The Cool Kids bring their '90s-esque sound to the Empty Bottle this weekend, as part of the venue’s 25th anniversary concert series. They’re amping up to record a new album, so expect to hear fresh tracks at this show. (The Empty Bottle, 1035 N Western Ave, Fri 9pm. $25)

3. Dance your way into the weekend

FKA—Big Chicks’ monthly uber-queer dance party—is the perfect way to ring in the weekend. Head to Uptown for great jams at this laid-back gay bar. (Big Chicks, 5024 N Sheridan Rd, Fri 9pm. Free)

4. Take the kids out in the sun

It’s not Easter without an egg hunt, right? The South Lawn of the Lincoln Park Zoo will be covered in chocolates and eggs for their annual Easter Egg-Stravaganza. We even heard the Easter Bunny will be making an appearance. (Lincoln Park Zoo, 2001 N Clark St, Sat 8am. Kids 2–15 $39, 16 and up $19)

5. Get your day-dance on

Party Noire is the go-to party for hip black millennials and their allies—we even named it one of Chicago’s most inclusive dance parties. Celebrate culture, creativity and joy at this monthly event. (The Promontory, 5311 S Lake Park Ave, Sat 2pm. $15, advance $10)

6. Celebrate sexuality

Sex columnist (and Chicago native) Dan Savage’s annual porn film festival comes to the Music Box this weekend. The fest aims to celebrate all genders, sexualities and kinks—come with an open mind! (Music Box Theatre, 3733 N Southport Ave, Sat 7pm. $25)

7. Get into the Easter spirit

Just because you’re not a kid anymore doesn’t mean you can’t participate in a good, old-fashioned Easter egg hunt. Scour Logan Square for colorful eggs at Longman & Eagle’s Adult Easter Egg Hunt. (Longman & Eagle, 2657 N Kedzie Ave, Sun 12pm. $5)
