1. Make your first time your best

Storytelling stars at CHIRP Radio’s ongoing lit series celebrate “firsts.” Head to Martyrs’ to hear Vaudevillian performer Alisa Rosenthal, Jeremy Owens of You're Being Ridiculous, journalist Anne Elizabeth Moore, artist Tony Fitzpatrick and poet James Gordon share their personal stories. (Martyrs', 3855 N Lincoln Ave, 8–10:30pm. $10)

2. Suspend your disbelief

Prepare to be amazed at one of the best long-running magic shows, The Magic Cabaret. This mind-blowing, interactive show features the talented Joe Diamond and David Parr, who have been evoking wonder and mystery for nearly a decade. (Greenhouse Theater Center, 2257 N Lincoln Ave, 8pm. $20)

3. See a legendary duo

If there’s a show that can turn the most cynical improv comedy poo-pooer into a fan and manage to please the snobbiest improvisers in town. it’s the slow-burning two-man show TJ & Dave. See why master improvisers TJ Jagodowski and Dave Pasquesi have earned their cult following at one of Chicago’s most cherished shows. Oh, and you’re obviously going to laugh a ton too. (iO Mission Theater, 1501 N Kingsbury St, 10:30pm. $10)
