A 52nd-floor condo in the Gold Coast's Waldorf Astoria sold for a whopping $11.7 million this week, making it the most expensive home sale in the city so far this year.

The four-bedroom, 4.5-bathroom space is about as nice of a home as you're going to find in all of Chicago proper. It has a private pool and bath area that's fit for Napoleon. It has multiple terraces that offer some amazing views in all directions. There's even a wine cellar and a home movie theater so the owners can get drunk and watch a flick without being interrupted by the commoners at the cinema.

Everything about the place is, well, lavish and unnecessary—but it's fun to imagine living in it (so long as you don't count the $103,000 in annual property taxes that come with it).

The sale is the latest in a rush of expensive downtown real estate sales this year. In May, Vince Vaughn finally sold his Palmolive Building penthouse after splitting it up into two separate units. Earlier this month, the penthouse on the top-floor of the Ritz-Carlton Residences sold for $8.6 million

If you're reading this, you'll almost certainly never be able to afford any of the homes mentioned—but they're still amazing to look at.
