Man Man + Shilpa Ray

September 23, Lincoln Hall
After working with a revolving cast of musicians, Honus Honus and Pow Pow (not their real names) seemed to come into their own on Man Man's 2013 release, On Oni Pond. Adding orchestral horn and string arrangements, the LP tightened the duo's psychedelic doo-wop sound, lending some extra heft to Honus' Captain Beefheart-indebted lyricism. The pair is joined by Shilpa Ray, touring behind her brooding, sardonic album, Last Year's Savage($18, 21+)

Braids + Tasseomancy

September 24, Subterranean
Not to be confused with Bob Nanna's mid-'90s emo band, Canadian ensemble Braids (plural!) plays shimmery, atmospheric pop that sounds a bit like defunct Calgary act Azeda Booth. The trio's newest release, Deep in the Iris, surrounds singer Raphaelle Standell's ethereal voice with layers of glitchy electronics and pulsing drums, alternating between dance-friendly pop and atmospheric balladry. Theatrical chamber pop duo Tasseomancy opens. ($12, 17+)

Ride + The Besnard Lakes

September 25, Riviera Theatre
Joining the recent cavalcade of reunited shoegaze acts, Ride continues to be a much different beast than bands like Slowdive and My Bloody Valentine. The quartet draws upon the melodic bent of '60s psychedelic pop, creating tracks such as "Like a Daydream" and "Mouse Trap" which are too buoyant to just stand around staring at your feet while you listen. Proggy husband and wife duo the Besnard Lakes support. ($35, 18+)
