On Friday, the Field Museum will debut its latest exhibition, “Tattoo,” which explores the history of tattooing and how the practice has evolved over time. As part of the exhibit, the museum has also opened its own tattoo shop, where attendees can purchase the ultimate (and most permanent) souvenir: a real tattoo courtesy of some of the city's most talented tattoo artists.

Tattoo artists from all around Chicago will be popping up in the museum's Tattoo Shop throughout the exhibit's run, which goes until April 30, 2017. Guests can book a session with an artist on the Field Museum's website or by calling 312-778-5040, Monday through Friday from noon to 4pm. Each tattoo costs $250 (the cost includes admission to the Field Museum) and must be selected from an artist's flash sheet—if you're looking for something customized, you're probably better off visiting a tattoo parlor that isn't located inside a museum.

Participating tattoo artists include Zach Stuka of Deluxe Tattoo, Stephanie Brown of Butterfat Studios and Tine DeFiore of Black Oak Tattoo—all artists that usually have lengthy waitlists. If you aren't able to book an appointment (nearly all openings are filled, as of this writing) or don't feel like getting a tattoo in public, you'll still be able to observe other guests getting inked up in the Tattoo Shop.

“Chicago is home to a vibrant tattooing community with a rich history,” Field Museum PR and Public Awareness Director Jaclyn Johnston said in a release. “We couldn’t resist opening a tattoo shop to showcase our city’s talent."
