Brookfield Zoo is giving Chicagoans a new reason to head out after dark this spring. The suburban landmark will unvei Glow Wild, a large-scale illuminated lantern experience that transforms the zoo into a glowing nighttime attraction filled with towering animal sculptures, light-wrapped pathways and immersive displays inspired by wildlife and the natural world.

Designed as an evening walk-through experience, Glow Wild features dozens of larger-than-life lantern installations depicting animals from across the globe, from jungle creatures to ocean life, all rendered in vivid colors and intricate detail. The displays are spread throughout the zoo’s grounds, encouraging visitors to explore familiar pathways in an entirely new way once the sun goes down.

Glow Wild is scheduled to run Thursdays through Sundays, March 19 through May 10, turning Brookfield Zoo into a destination for date nights, family outings and anyone looking for something a little different to do after work. In addition to the illuminated installations, the experience includes music, performances and themed food and drink offerings, making it feel closer to a nighttime festival than a traditional zoo visit.

The event follows a growing trend of after-hours lantern festivals popping up at zoos and cultural institutions across the country, but Glow Wild marks one of the largest efforts of its kind in the Chicago area. By keeping the focus on wildlife imagery and environmental themes, Brookfield Zoo is using the format to reinforce its broader mission while still delivering a visually striking, Instagram-ready experience.

Visitors can take a self-guided route that takes roughly 60 to 90 minutes to complete. Tickets for Glow Wild are sold separately from regular daytime zoo admission, with pricing varying by date, though your ticket also gets you a ride on the carousel and Ferris wheel. Advance purchase is strongly encouraged. The event is designed to be accessible for all ages, though strollers and comfortable walking shoes are recommended.

As spring gets underway and Chicagoans start craving outdoor experiences again, Glow Wild arrives as a timely addition to the city’s event calendar. Whether you’re looking for a low-key evening stroll, a family-friendly outing or a reason to revisit Brookfield Zoo in a new light, this glowing after-dark attraction is shaping up to be one of the season’s most eye-catching experiences.
