It’s been a pretty mild winter so far in Chicago but that could soon change.

After having one of the warmest Decembers on record, with average temperatures 8-9 degrees above normal, a storm system is expected to hit the region next week. The National Weather Service says it’ll likely bring gusty winds, wet snow and rain.

When will it snow in Chicago?

The storm is predicted to arrive Monday evening and last until Tuesday night.

How much snow is expected to fall in Chicago?

The overall accumulation is still uncertain, as it will depend on the track of the storm system. There should be a better sense of how much snow is headed our way in the coming days. Overall, Chicago only had 1.2 inches of snowfall in December, which was 6.4 inches below normal.

The city did see more rain than usual last month, with 2.97 inches of precipitation—0.86 inches below normal. The average temperature was 39 degrees, or 8.5 degrees above the norm. This was tied for the fourth warmest December on record.

As for this coming weekend, there’s a chance of light snow throughout parts of central Illinois, northeast Illinois and northwest Indiana late Friday night into Saturday morning. Light snow showers may continue Saturday evening into early Sunday, with highs of around mid-30s on both days.
