Starbucks is pulling the plug on hundreds of locations across the U.S., and 15 locations in Chicago are on the list.
The company confirmed this week that about one percent of its North American stores will close, part of a broader restructuring that also includes cutting 900 corporate jobs.

While Starbucks has declined to release a full list of store closings, one major closure is already confirmed: the high-profile Starbucks Reserve at 1588 N. Milwaukee Ave. in Wicker Park. A notice on the door signals the end of the coffee shop’s run at the iconic North/Milwaukee/Damen intersection, a site Starbucks had remodeled into a Reserve location back in 2017. However, here is a full list of locations that will likely be affected by the closures.

CEO Brian Niccol, in a message to employees, called the closures part of a “turnaround journey” aimed at revitalizing the brand. The company-wide review, he said, flagged stores that struggled financially or failed to provide the kind of customer environment Starbucks wants to deliver.
The shake-up isn’t just about downsizing—it’s also about reimagining. Starbucks says it will redesign more than 1,000 stores over the next year, promising “greater texture, warmth and layered design.”
The news lands in the middle of a wave of union activity at Starbucks stores nationwide, as employees push for higher pay and stronger job protections. Some baristas at shuttered locations will be offered transfers, though others are expected to lose their jobs.
The closures will be happening soon, so check the list to see if your favorite location is on the list and start looking for an alternative.
