Acclaimed chef Lee Wolen was planning to open a rotisserie chicken shop inside Revival Food Hall back in March—and then, like everything else, his plans came to a screeching halt. But now that the dust has settled and the city prepares to enter Phase 3 of reopening, Wolen is going for it.

Launching on Friday, May 29, GG's Chicken Shop will make its big debut—though under slightly different circumstances than Wolen imagined. For now, it's a delivery-only concept operating out of Boka in Lincoln Park; diners can queue up their orders on third-party platform Caviar. The name of the concept is one thing that hasn't changed—it's a nod to Wolen's mother, Geri.

"The whole-roasted chicken and fried chicken sandwiches have been so well received at Boka, we wanted to make them even more available for everyone via delivery," Wolen says. "Since we had the menu and collateral finalized for GG's pre-shutdown, the timing felt right. We're excited to open right now, and hope that a lot of people enjoy the preview of GG's before we officially open our restaurant doors when the time is right."

The menu includes three sandwiches: crispy fried chicken, oven roasted chicken salad and the vegetarian-friendly spicy cauliflower. On the rotisserie front, diners can order half or whole chickens, which come with your choice of side and sauce. There's plenty to pair with the poultry, including almond-studded broccoli slaw, crispy Brussels sprouts, potato salad and cucumber salad. Lighten the load with a salad or go all in with one of pastry chef Meg Galus's desserts—you can choose from oatmeal cream pie or chocolate chip cookies.

For now, GG's is available exclusively for delivery, launching on Friday, May 29 via Caviar. Browse the full menu and consider donating to Boka's employee relief fund while you're at it.
