Ohio-based Jeni's moved into Southport Corridor in September 2013 and immediately upped Chicago's ice cream scene. Sweet corn ice cream with black raspberry swirls? They've got that. The richest, darkest chocolate ice cream you'll ever have? They've got that too. When you factor in toppings like salted caramel sauce, the decision about what to order is that much harder. Luckily, Jeni's workers will provide you with as many samples as you want.

BROWN BUTTER ALMOND BRITTLE is the the nectar of the ice cream gods. I love it so much and it is one of the best things I have ever had.
THE BEST ICE CREAM IN THIS FINE CITY I'M SORRY FOR THE CAPS I JUST CAN'T CONTROL MY EMOTIONS WHEN I TALK ABOUT JENI'S
Jeni’s is the cutest little ice cream shop on Southport and is the perfect spot to go to on a warm summer night with your friends or family. My favorite thing about Jeni’s is the wide variety of flavors offered. Sure, there is chocolate and vanilla, both very good, but the gourmet flavors are what really stand out. The brambleberry crisp is something that I find myself coming back to every time. It is a streusel with a “brambleberry” jam layered in vanilla ice cream. My other favorites are wild berry lavender, which is smooth and slightly sweet, and darkest chocolate, which is insanely decadent. The shop is small so expect crowds on summer nights but the staff is friendly as welcomes testing out the flavors.
Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams has a wonderfully adorable ambiance with soft string lights and a giant chalk board filled with exotic flavors from Goat Cheese with Red Cherries to Middle West Whiskey & Pecans. The servers are incredibly friendly, and they smile patiently as they serve small, metal spoons for you to try the flavor of your choosing. The ice cream itself is rich and soft -- two scoops is enough for one person -- however, the waffle cones are nothing to rave about. I had one scoop of Birch & Marshmallow and one scoop of Brambleberry Crisp. Delicious! A wonderful place to go with a friend, though there's not much seating so be careful how many people you take here.
Go to Jeni's and get a scoop of the wildberry lavendar—if you haven't tried it yet, drop everything you're doing and head there now. Any flavor you sample from the shop is sure to be amazing. Plus, they make their own waffle cones in-house, the smell of which is delightful.
I frequented the very first Jeni's Ice Cream shop as a high school student in Columbus, Ohio—thankfully, the brand's expansion hasn't decreased the quality of its product. Sure, some of then flavor names have changed (I'll always call the peanut butter scoops 'buckeye') but there's more of them than ever before. Whether you prefer a fresh waffle cone (they give the shop its enticing smell) or a cup filled with scoops, you'll find a flavor (or two) you enjoy here.
Strong contender for the best ice cream in Chicago. It's easy to get lost in sampling flavors at a Jeni's, and the staff will indulge you in that endeavor. Whether you choose something classic or something bizarre, the flavors are rich, subtle, and worth every penny. The service and space are very nice, my kids love it.
