We would like to wish all our readers, partners and sponsors a Happy New Year from the team at Time Out Croatia! So many thanks for all your support over the last 12 months and here’s to every success in 2023!

The new year started with major celebrations across Croatia and two significant developments on the stroke of midnight. As of January 1, Croatia is part of the border-free Schengen zone, meaning that travellers arriving here from most of the European Union need not show their passports. Already in effect for visitors by land and sea, easier travel will be introduced for air passengers from March 26.

Also from midnight as Croatia welcomed in the new year, the country adopted the euro as its official currency, replacing the kuna in place since 1994. For the next two weeks, both will be accepted as payment, after which you may exchange your kuna free of charge at banks and post offices at the rate of 7.53450.

Both these initiatives should boost tourism in Croatia, where a bumper year is expected in 2023.
