Istrian producers Agrolaguna have taken several prizes at the prestigious International Cheese & Dairy Awards held in Staffordshire, UK. Run every year since 1897, these are considered biggest in the industry. For this 125th anniversary year, the competition was especially tough, with more than 5,000 entries from Europe, the Americas and Asia.

Agrolaguna took gold in the non-hard-pressed sheeps' milk cheese category with their popular Špin brand. The Poreč-based company also claimed silver for small-batch cheesemakers and bronze for their soft truffle cheese. The accolades underline the ever-growing reputation of Istrian cheese, in tandem with the region’s famed olive oil, smoked ham and wine.
