Polish rider Bartosz Zmarzlik started the season in style at speedway's opening Grand Prix on the unique Goričan track in northern Croatia. Despite flashes of brilliance from Tai Woffinden, the UK rider crashed out in the semi-final, allowing a dominant Zmarzlik to take the finish line in the final.
Despite the rain, which delayed the start of the event, Polish fans celebrated in numbers around the revered stadium, reopened in 2022. The UK’s Robert Lambert finished second. Focus now falls on Warsaw in two weeks’ time, when Zmarzlik will be looking to pick up maximum points on home turf.
