Film lovers and a cast of heavy hitters from Croatia’s film industry gathered at Kino SC for the opening of the Zagreb Film Festival on Sunday. Celebrating its 20th year, organisers spoke of the festival’s past and looked forward to its future.

Prominent Croatian director and ZFF alumnus Juraj Lerotić screened his latest film Sigurno mjesto ('Safe Place') and took to the stage afterwards to long applause from the audience. The feature is Croatia’s nomination for this year’s Oscars, and has already won awards at festivals in Sarajevo and Locarno.
