With the ever-growing coffee culture in Tokyo, we can all take tips from the expert baristas and quaint cafes tucked into the street corners and shops all over the city. Here are some of our favourite finds around this coffee-crazy city.

Saturdays Surf NYC
Nestled inside Saturdays Surf NYC, the effortlessly cool surf and skate store in Daikanyama, is an excellent coffee bar where you can pick up your daily cup of coffee or tea. Browse through the well-curated selection of clothing and accessories in the shop or enjoy your coffee out on their spacious patio for a relaxing break. One of three stores in Japan, this chain is originally from New York City and has quite a cult following for their superb coffeeand in-house lifestyle brand.

Ima Concept Store
A bookstore, gallery space and coffee shop, this concept store is one of the newest spaces in Roppongi.  It’s filled with art from young photographers in Japan and around the world, plus many unique books to keep you occupied. There’s a spot for hosting various workshops and talk events, with many opportunities for up and coming artists to exhibit and share their work while, of course, enjoying a cup of coffee from Obscura Coffee Roasters.

Motoya Express
This is truly a unique coffee shop as Motoya Express is simply a vintage van turned coffee shop. Order your favourite cup of coffee along with a sweet snack, from their baked doughnuts to a nutty caramel cookie, and enjoy it sitting on stools parked right next to the vehicle.

Streamer Coffee Company
Expert coffee baristas at both Streamer locations in Tokyo are on hand to whip up the perfect latte for you. This coffee shop houses some unique drinks, including its military latte, consisting of matcha (green tea), white chocolate and espresso giving the drink a marbled-military pattern with a sweet touch. Drink your latte with a matching military doughnut or browse through the coffee merchandise from t-shirts to latte art books.

The Cream of the Crop Coffee
If you have time on your trip, visit The Cream of the Crop Coffee’s main roasting location. Let your senses awaken as you walk inside and smell the fresh roasted coffee from the stunningly large roaster. Pick your roast and have a hand-dripped coffee made right in front of you. No milk or sugar needed – this coffee packs a punch with delicious flavours to satisfy your palate. Their outpost in Shibuya Hikarie also serves espresso soft serve for those ice cream feinds.

Paddler’s Coffee
This shop use to be housed inside the second floor of the Todd Snyder boutique in Shibuya but now has its own stand alone shop. Making their brews from the well-known Stumptown Coffee Roasters of Portland, Oregon, Paddler’s Coffee is one of the only places in Tokyo where you can find Stumptown Coffee.

The Roastery by Nozy Coffee
Shop till you drop down Tokyo’s trendy Cat Street, then take a much needed coffee break at The Roastery by Nozy Coffee. Head to the back of the shop to see its large roaster in action or take a seat at the espresso bar with a flaky cronut in hand. Its minimal menu is limited to the three items they do best, so try out a shot of their espresso, an Americano or a simple café latte.

Omotesando Koffee (Closed - visit Toranomon Koffee)
Undoubtedly one of the best cups of coffee you’ll find in Tokyo, Omotesando Koffee is found in a quaint, traditional Japanese house in a residential area behind the bustling streets of Omotesando. Don’t be surprised to see a line forming outside the house with people eager to get their hands on a cup of coffee and a square of their decadent baked custard.
