San Francisco artist Richard Serra is primarily known for the minimalist large-scale sculptures he has installed around the world, but in the 1970s he started added drawings to his body of work. Rather than preparatory sketches, though, these are post-sculpture reflections. Using his favorite medium, the paintstick (a waxy, grease crayon), he translates the pieces' spatial relationships onto Hitomi paper or Belgian linen. Get a glimpse of his recent drawings at this exhibit and see these works' merit as their own art form.
