The Craft & Folk Art Museum is delving into colder climates and presenting the works of four acclaimed contemporary Alaska native artists in collaboration with the Anchorage Museum. The artists address individual identity and challenge native stereotypes through a variety of mediums— walrus tusk carvings, unexpected materials such as Beluga intestine and side-by-side photo comparisons of Star Wars’ Princess Leia with the butterfly hairstyle traditionally donned by unmarried Hopi girls. Disarm your own stereotypes of Alaska by visiting this fascinating exhibit.
