After a couple dates, once you’ve established that the girl or guy you're seeing probably isn’t going to murder you if given the opportunity, a daytime hike is a nice way to mix things up. It’s a chance to measure your match’s ruggedness and see if he or she makes a mountain out of a molehill, figuratively or literally. There are a lot of great options in LA regardless of your athletic abilities, or lack thereof.

The Hollywood Reservoir is the perfect option for someone who isn’t sure if they really even like nature or just “like to hike” because they live in Los Angeles. This hidden gem consists of a flat, paved 3.3-mile loop that offers unusual views of the Hollywood sign and surrounding hills. The serene stroll lends itself to a romantic moment, and you won’t be out of breath from scaling a mountain.

If you’re looking for something more than a stroll, Griffith Park offers 53 miles of trails ranging from novice to expert, and there’s no shortage of LA landmarks along the way. Depending on the fork in the road, you might just stumble upon Batman’s cave, “The Wisdom Tree” or the Griffith Observatory — a perfect setting for a starry-eyed moment with your date.

For adventure-seekers, test your date’s fear of heights at the highest point of the Santa Monica mountains at Sandstone Peak. The 7.1-mile trail has a little bit of everything from rocky formations like the actual peak to valleys and ocean views. It’s the perfect opportunity to test whether you’re going out with the type of person who relishes in the moment to take in the view, or take a couple selfies. What that means for your relationship is up to you.
