Just in time for this sudden winter weather we're having (yes, the Santa Ana winds count), The Church Key is embracing LA's love for all things tiki and introducing a taste of the tropics to their happy hour. Starting this evening, the one-year-old West Hollywood spot will offer umbrella-topped cocktails for $8, like the Rosarita Way made with Dobel Maestro tequila, lime, rose water and orgeat. Sip a Blue Hawaii with Malibu Rum, Blue Curacao, creme de coconut and pineapple, or the flaming One N Done with Bacardi Superior, Sailor Jerry, Goslings dark rum, pineapple and OJ. With all the stress of the holidays this week, we're thinking this is a great way to start vacation early.
The restaurant's boozy Odder Pops are getting an island makeover as well; for $6, you can now slurp on popsicles with names like Peruvian Lai (Pisco Portón, guava, lime) and Zombie (rum, passion fruit, orange, lime, angostura bitters). Food specials are all $4-$5—and, of course, there's spam involved (the Kalua pork and spam is made "Hawaiian style" with teriyaki pineapple). They have a selection of skewers that range from Oaxacan chicken meatball to Filipino pork BBQ, and their Pu Pu Platter (remember those?) includes a spring roll, samosas and three skewers for $15. Basically, if you want to pretend you're in Polynesian paradise, The Church Key after work is your jam.
Happy hour at The Church Key runs Mon-Fri, 5:30-7pm.
