American Cinematheque continues its "German Currents 2014" series with two Los Angeles premieres of recent German fare in one night. First up, Beltracchi - The Art of Forgery is a thought-provoking doc that tells the story of a couple who fooled the art world with their masterful forgeries for nearly 40 years, and questions the very nature of art itself. Next on the playbill is director Frauke Finsterwalder's ensemble drama, marked by its top-notch screenplay and cinematography. Twelve characters ranging from a pedicurist to a cop-slash-closet Furry go through the motions of a single day and find themselves all interconnected in this modern fairy tale. Learn more about the films with a talk on art forgery from KCRW's Edward Goldman following Beltracchi, and a discussion with Finsterwalder after Finsterworld. Note: Make it a multi-discliplinary night; before the double feature, join the folks at the Egyptian for a special art exhibit opening of "The Other Worlds of Werner Herzog" down the street at Wuho Gallery (6518 Hollywood Blvd.).
