Budding auteurs, bring thick skin: this raucous hybrid of a short film festival and an open mic night allows filmmaking hopefuls to share their under-10-minute 'masterpieces' with the public and face an often painfully honest reaction. Hosted by the hilarious Sklar Brothers, who encourage the loud audience to boo films they can’t watch another second of and cheer those they love (even for so-bad-it’s-good reasons), it’s a quintessentially LA experience worth checking out. The Hammer will screen the first 30 or so films submitted in the half hour prior to the show (see guidelines here), and an audience favorite will win an award. Bonus: free popcorn!
