From Peter Strickland, the acclaimed director of Berberian Sound Studio, comes this film about two European women lovers who study butterflies and moths. Each day, Cynthia and Evelyn act out an extensive ritual that ends with Evelyn—who thrives on being used—getting punished. Visually beautiful, the film is nevertheless a twisted, kinky tour de force exploring their sadistic-masochistic relationship, even while the older, dominant woman longs for a more conventional love.
